Sociology work placements

Our Sociology BSc degrees offer you the opportunity to gain professional work experience through our unique placement offerings.

Placements are a great way to see if your future career goal is right for you and the perfect opportunity for you to improve your confidence ready for when you graduate.

With the expert guidance of your personal tutor and our Placement and Development Centre (PDC) you’ll be supported every step of the way to find a role that suits you and your goals.

You will undertake your work placement after your second year of studies giving you the opportunity to apply your knowledge and skills in a real-life working environment, with real responsibilities. We provide a unique work placement offering for our sociology students as they can typically last for one year (44 weeks) or instead you can do two short six month placements in different settings. Within this time, an academic member of the staff from the Sociology department will keep in touch and visit you on your placement.

Most placements provide a salary giving you the chance to earn some extra money during your studies, as you get the chance to taste life as a professional before entering the graduate world.

Our sociology students have recently secured placements at a variety of sectors and settings, including working in local government, advertising, digital marketing, public relations, HR within the hospitality sector and children’s settings.
