History work placements

Our History BA programmes offer the opportunity to gain professional experience through work placements.

Placements are a great way to see if your future career is right for you and the perfect opportunity for you to improve your confidence in the working world.

You will undertake your work placement after your second year of studies giving you the opportunity to apply your knowledge and skills in a real-life working environment, with real responsibilities. Placements typically last for 44 weeks. Within this time, an academic member of the staff from the History department will keep in touch and visit you on your placement.

Most placements provide a salary giving you the chance to earn some extra money during your studies but most importantly giving you the chance to taste life as a professional before entering the graduate world.

Our Professional Development Centre will support you across your journey, from finding job opportunities that suit your goals, CV writing and interview techniques, and feedback and support.

You will develop invaluable skills and in some cases our students have been offered graduate positions within the organisations where they undertook their work placements.

Our students have recently secured placements at a variety of sectors and settings, including MP’s Offices at the House of Commons, Directorate of Gender Affairs, HM Treasury, YouGov, The Department of Work and Pensions, HM Customs and Excise, Harrow Museum and Heritage Centre as well as within HR and marketing.
