Media interests

Media and public engagement interests include DNA replication, genome stability, replication stress, CRISPR biology, antimicrobial mechanisms and bacterial chromosome dynamics. Current research particularly focuses on how replication stress disrupts chromosome maintenance and how cells respond to stalled or damaged replication forks.

Additional interests include science communication, public engagement with molecular and genome biology, academic blogging and the development of accessible plain-language explanations of scientific research. Research commentary and publication summaries are available via the RudolphLAB website, blog and GrowKudos profile.

My involvement in the research on artificial sweeteners and bacterial physiology has received international media attention, including coverage relating to studies on acesulfame K (2022) [paper] [BBC Science Focus coverage] and saccharin (2025) [paper] [ScienceAlert coverage].
