A degree in media and communications will equip you with the necessary transferable skills in critical thinking, research and public speaking, alongside providing you with media industry-standard practical skills to prepare you for the world of work.
Studying media and communications at Brunel is not limited to the classroom - you’ll have the opportunity to broaden your mind by going on fieldtrips and getting first-hand experiences during practical sessions in areas such as photography, podcasting and video editing in our dedicated Media Teaching Centre.
You’ll have free access to industry-standard equipment and software such as Adobe Creative Cloud, so you can gain and develop the skills needed by employers in various media fields.
At Brunel, you'll also have the opportunity to learn a different language while you study. This will give you the opportunity to develop and expand your communications skills, gain an insight into other cultures, and prepare you for an international exchange programme, giving you a competitive edge in the global job market.
Build skills outside the classroom
Technical experience
You’ll have the opportunity to get first-hand experience using technical equipment during your practical sessions, where you will learn about photography, graphic design, digital media content creation and post-production. Our industry standard equipment and production facilities will help you master the skills that the media industry is looking for, including the Adobe Creative Cloud suite of software and practical skills in generative AI for creative projects.
Fieldtrips and our proximity to central London
A beneficial way of learning is through our optional fieldtrips. Being close to central London, you’ll have easy access to a variety of fieldtrips such as visiting the Barbican; the British Board of Film Classification; London Migration Museum; Museum of Comedy; Museum of London and regeneration areas (such as Spitalfields Market and Smithfields Market in London); and the Victoria and Albert Museum. These trips are created to help with your academic studies.
Guest speakers
We invite guest speakers from the media industry to come and talk to our students, giving you a different perspective to what you’re learning in the classroom. You’ll benefit from hearing their first-hand experiences and seeing how what you learn is applied in the media and creative industries. You will also benefit greatly from being taught by academic staff who are actively engaged in research and who have earned Brunel an international reputation both for research and excellence in teaching as well as academic staff who regularly appear in the news.
Learn a new language
At Brunel we offer you the opportunity to learn a new language, allowing you to expand your communication skills, to gain insight into other cultures, and to prepare you for study abroad if you opt for it. You can choose from nine different languages; Modern Standard Arabic, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Mandarin, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian and Spanish.
Opportunity to study abroad
Through the study abroad scheme, you will have opportunity to study at one of a number of European and American universities.
