Media and Communications work placements

Our Communication and Media Studies BSc degree offers the opportunity to gain professional experience through our unique work placement offerings.

Spending a year working with a high-profile company while you study can really add value to your CV.

Placements are a great way to see if your future career goal is right for you and the perfect opportunity for you to improve your confidence in the creative and media industries. Brunel has close links with local media partners as well as large media corporations due to our close proximity to central London.

Most of our media and communications students that choose to go on a work placement do so in London within the media industry. Our students have recently secured placements at a variety of media settings, including advertising, digital marketing and public relations in organisations such as Cartoon Network, IMG Media, Sweet Images and The Walt Disney Company.

You will undertake your work placement after your second year of studies giving you the opportunity to apply your knowledge and skills in a real-life working environment, with real responsibilities. We provide a unique work placement offering for our media and communications students as they can typically last for one year (44 weeks) or instead you can do two short six month placements. Within this time, an academic member of the staff from the Media and Communications department will keep in touch and visit you on your placement.

Most placements provide a salary giving you the chance to earn some extra money during your studies, as you get the chance to taste life as a professional before entering the graduate world.

Our Professional Development Centre will support you across your journey, from finding job opportunities that suit your goals, CV writing and interview techniques, and feedback and support.
