ASK events throughout the year

ASK Week (November and February)

These events focus on academic writing, dissertations and statistical/ SPSS support.  These sessions are primarily geared towards undergraduate students, but PGT students may also find them useful, and all students are welcome to attend.  The workshops are all currently being held online via Blackboard Collaborate and students can attend with no advance registration required. Please access the ASK Blackboard pages for more information.

Undergraduate Dissertation Week (January)

This is a week-long series of workshops run by the ASK team designed to help students complete their undergraduate dissertation.  Workshop topics range from academic writing and criticality skills to specialised sessions on specific chapters, such as the literature review and the discussion, as well as SPSS workshops for those doing statistical analysis.

Master's Dissertation Week (March/April)

This event offers sessions tailored specifically for Master students writing up their dissertation, no matter where they are in the process of their dissertation. Students don’t need to register, they can just attend the sessions that feel applicable to where they are in their student journey.

Maths Cafe (April/May) and Maths Cafe Express (August)

Bring along your Maths questions/ problems and receive one-to-one help or study in an informal setting. All levels are welcome and we have paper resources, tea, coffee and snacks.

Master's Dissertation Week 2021

22 - 26 March 2021

A whole week of workshops tailored specifically for Master's students writing up their dissertation, no matter where they are in the process of their dissertation.

Maths Cafe Express

NVivo sessions

The Graduate school are running NVivo sessions via Blackboard Collaborate from 1 - 7 July 2020. All sessions start at 2pm and run for 2 hours. For the best user experience we recommend using the Google Chrome browser when joining these online sessions.

Below is a list of the sessions being offered by the Graduate School:

  • Managing data (Wednesday 1 July at 2pm)

  • Browsing your data (Thursday 2 July at 2pm)

  • Getting evidences (Friday 3 July at 2pm)

  • Working with social media (Monday 6 July at 2pm)

  • Literature review (Tuesday 7 July at 2pm)

Maths Cafe

Master's Dissertation Week

Due to current University guidelines on face-to face teaching, the ASK team will not be on campus from Thursday 19 March onwards so will be running services virtually. This means that Master's Dissertation Week will be run online using Blackboard Collaborate.

Master's Dissertation Week

3 June - 7 June 2019

Brunel Graduate School is pleased to announce the dates for this academic year’s Master's Dissertation Week.

A stimulating week of presentations and workshops for Master’s students, covering all aspects of planning, researching and writing your dissertation.

Sessions will be delivered by the Graduate School Team, ASK Team and the Library Team. 

Students are welcome to attend the sessions of their choice.

This informal drop-in session provides an opportunity to work on your dissertation with ASK advisers on hand to discuss any questions you have. Drop-in and see us briefly or stay and write for as long as you want. Tea and biscuits on tap!

Postgraduate Workshops - June 2018

In June we have series of workshops specially designed for Business School students working towards their Master's degree whose methodology involves writing and distributing a questionnaire and analysing the results using statistics in SPSS.

Registration for the workshop is required and is a two-day event running 13 - 14 June and again on 20 - 21 June.

Undergraduate Dissertation Week

Undergraduate Dissertation Week (UGDW) is a week-long series of workshops run by the ASK team designed to help you complete your undergraduate dissertation.  Workshop topics range from academic writing and criticality skills to specialised sessions on specific chapters, such as the literature review and the discussion, as well as SPSS workshops for those doing statistical analysis.

UGDW is held in Week 18 (22-26 January 2018), and all sessions are run in the library.  These sessions are open to all students at all levels, and no advance booking is required – but please show up on time, as many of the sessions fill up very quickly!
