BSc Accountancy is accredited by professional accountancy bodies ACCA, CIMA and ICAEW.

Accountancy is a broad-based academic programme and a field of study with practical implications, offering the chance to develop related personal and professional skills. The study of this programme involves the consideration of conceptual, professional and practical aspects of accountancy.

Course content

The focus on academic literacy development in all parts of the course ensures that students develop strong linguistic competence and advanced numeracy skills as well as a mastery of their discipline at an appropriate level. Through the course, students will be encouraged to engage appropriately with peers and tutors as members of an academic community. This will involve the development of critical self-awareness and personal literacy as students become more attuned to their identity as global citizens.

Careers and your future

Our aim is to teach you ‘employable knowledge’, which can be applied to real-world situations giving you the skills you need to find the right role after you graduate.  Therefore, you’ll be well prepared for work, especially if you undertake a work placement. Securing economics and finance degree jobs is highly competitive so we’ll support you to gain a strong foundation in the skills employers are looking for.  We offer opportunities within the Department of Economics and Finance as well as through the University’s Professional Development Centre (PDC) to help you build skills and experience.

Our graduates are employed in many fields, with roles at NatWest (Financing Futures), PricewaterhouseCoopers and KPMG, the Treasury and Bank of England. Within industry, graduates are working at businesses like BP, Xerox and Marks and Spencer.

2024/25 entry

£9,250 EU/Domestic First year University Studies
£16,350 International First year University Studies

September is the only available intake for EU/Domestic students who are applying for a Student Finance Loan.

Assessment and feedback

This is an intensive programme with a minimum 16 hours per week and a corresponding number of ongoing assessment tasks designed to provide a scaffolded structure for students at this entry level to Higher Education. Students learn through a combination of formal, interactive lectures in relevant content areas, interactive seminars, practical workshop sessions and IT-enabled self-study opportunities: practical application of theoretical knowledge allows students to develop further skills and understanding of relevant topics and concepts.
