National Structural Integrity Research Centre

Leading the way in cutting-edge research focused on engineering and materials, Brunel secured funding in 2012 for the £60 million Cambridge based National Structural Integrity Research Centre (NSIRC) embedded within TWI's headquarters. Brunel serves proudly as the lead academic partner in the joint initiative with TWI. The partnership is designed to deliver research training and industrial experience to graduates in state-of-the-art-facilities. Partnered with industry, and in collaboration with technology, engineering and research organisation TWI, NSIRC addresses challenges in structural safety and trains a future generation of highly-skilled engineers, capable for rapidly adapting to the latest industrial and environmental challenges.

Postgraduate education with impact

NSIRC has a proven track record of equipping future engineering professionals with the knowledge and expertise they need to be successful and this will continue throughout 2020 and beyond. NSIRC postgraduate degrees combine high-quality research and teaching with industrial experience at TWI, the structural integrity and engineering specialists. To date, over 280 PhD and MSc students have been enrolled with NSIRC, representing over 35 different nations. 89% of NSIRC graduates are now employed in the industry.
