Psychological Stress and Performance in Sport

Potential project 1: To further establish the construct validity of the Three-Factor Anxiety Inventory (TFAI). Using longitudinal quantitative data with UK university and elite sporting cohorts, confirm the TFAI’s predictive against objective, real-world sports performance metrics across a competitive season, alongside related constructs (hardiness, coping, psychological skills).

Potential project 2: Build on existing network models to establish networks of performance anxiety alongside associated personality characteristics such as hardiness and Reinforcement Sensitivity Theory to help pinpoint specific, malleable targets for intervention. Design and pilot a theoretically grounded intervention specifically targeting the highly interconnected central nodes identified in the first stage of the project.
