This course focuses on improving your academic English skills. Classes will include modules on:
- Research Skills and Academic Writing
- Presentation Skills
- Listening and Note-taking
- Seminar Skills
- Grammar and Vocabulary Development
The Pre-sessional course is a full-time programme and comprises 19 hours classroom study per week, plus a 10-minute tutorial. Classes will be scheduled Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm.
Subject Specific Classes
An important part of the teaching programme here at Brunel Language Centre are subject specific classes. These bring together students who will be studying similar degree courses and focus on the skills and vocabulary needed for those subject areas. Students can also get the opportunity to visit interesting London venues to explore their discipline outside the classroom.

Course Assessment
At the end of the programme, all students following the Pre-sessional programme will sit the Brunel English Language Test (BrunELT). You will be tested on your writing, reading, speaking and listening skills and will receive a score for each component as well as an overall score.
Progression onto Future Studies
To progress onto your academic course at Brunel you will need to pass the Pre-sessional course and achieve the required BrunELT score to meet the language requirements for your academic programme. You will usually not need to take any other English Test.
