Electronic and Electrical Engineering undergraduate courses

Develop analytical and innovative skills to inform future applications in electronics, electrical power and control, and communications engineering with our accredited courses. You can also opt in for a placement to bring your studies to life. Our courses' ranking in student satisfaction and graduate outcomes across multiple league tables demonstrates their quality.

Develop your skills and knowledge to play a key role in the rapidly expanding technological industry

Our industry-led courses focus on important themes relevant to electronics, electric vehicle technology, communication systems, smart grids, embedded real-time systems and the ‘Internet of Things’.

Expert teaching

You’ll be taught by research-led academics, some of whom work with CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research. This will allow you to understand how the course is applicable in the workplace. You’ll benefit from their first-hand knowledge of the upcoming technological systems and learn how to apply theory to real engineering problems and technologies.

Quality and rankings

Our electronic and electrical engineering program achieved a top-five ranking in London according to the Guardian University Guide 2023 and the Complete University Guide 2024. Furthermore, our department gained the 3rd spot in London for student satisfaction according to the National Student Survey (NSS) 2023. In terms of post-graduation success, the our program ranks 7th in London for employment or further study within three years after graduation, with graduates commanding an average salary of £31,800, as per LEO (Longitudinal Education Outcomes) Data 2023.

Industry recognised degrees

All our courses are accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology, which gives you a route to achieving Chartered Engineer status and managing larger engineering projects in the future.

Brilliant industry-grade facilities

You’ll get to work with a variety of equipment including oscilloscopes, controllers and wireless sensors, plus a range of other instrumentation, so you can work on your projects independently. We even have our own printed board and robotic soldering facilities. Our courses will also give you the opportunity to use industry-leading software, including Matlab, Pip and Triple PB3, ensuring you’re using the most current tools to gain a competitive edge in the workplace.

Common engineering first year to build a strong foundation

At Brunel, every engineering student across all five disciplines (aerospace, chemical, civil, electronic and electrical and mechanical and automotive engineering) follow the same first year, so you’ll learn the fundamentals of each subject before continuing with your chosen specialism for the next years. This will give you an unusually broad understanding of engineering principles.

Strong industry connections to find your placement

Industrial placements, although not compulsory, are integral to our undergraduate courses. They will bring your studies to life, giving you excellent work experience and contacts. Our close proximity to many of the UK’s biggest electronics and telecommunications employers – in London and along the M4 corridor – means our placement network is second to none. Recently our students have taken placements with high-profile companies like ARM, BMW, IBM, Centrica, Intel, Mercedes, Microsoft, Motorola, National Grid, Siemens, SSE, 3M and UK Power Networks. Our academics and career advisers will give you guidance and support you during your placement search, from writing your CV to getting prepared for interviews and assessments. They also will be there for you while you're on your placement year if you need any help or support.

Career support

Our Brunel Engineers Showcase is your platform to exhibit your final year project, with leading companies invited to view, judge, and award prizes. In electronic and electrical engineering, diverse career opportunities await you in a rapidly growing field, with our recent graduates finding roles in prominent organisations like IBM, the BBC, Intel, Microsoft, National Grid, and Siemens. Our dedicated career advisers will be available from day one to assist with part-time jobs, placements, internships, and more, supporting you even up to three years after graduation. Additionally, for those pursuing further education, we offer a range master's courses in electronic and electrical engineering.

Get ready with a foundation year

If you don't feel prepared for degree-level study or lack the necessary qualifications, we provide two foundation year choices: Engineering with an Integrated Foundation Year and the Undergraduate Pathway in Engineering.
