We know this is an unprecedented and uncertain time but we have created some tips and tricks for trying to study from home.

(The Innovia is Brunel University's Women in STEM Student Society, established in 2012.)

Set up your study space

Find an area in your home that's conducive to working, whether it's a desk or a couch. Just make sure it allows you to stay focused. Try and replicate areas that you find best to study in such as the library or a coffee shop, there are playlists that can replicate those sounds and can try and re-create that vibe.

Stick to or create a routine

Wake up early, take a shower, have breakfast, or a cup of coffee. This helps prepare your mind and body for a productive day of studying. Staying in your PJs all day may not be the most effective way to get some revision done. However, you know how you work best so stick to that!

Have a revision plan or timetable

Before you start, list down your module for the day, week, or month, this can allow you to plan ahead and be prepared for the exams. The timetable has been released so make sure you know how your exam is being delivered and resources you need to complete such as a calculator or a resource booklet. "By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail" - Benjamin Franklin.

Communicate

Check-in with your course-mates and friends, this is a stressful time when there isn't a global pandemic! If you need help ask your lecturers and friends, we are all in this together.

Take breaks

The key is balance. Give yourself enough time during the day to walk away from your computer screen and phone. Move around, take a step back, and don't forget to stop working and self care. This could be taking time to talk to your family and friends, exercise, or finally get through your Netflix to-watch list!

Don't panic

The most important stage of them all, during this very uncertain and scary time is to not panic. Make sure that you take time to study for the exams but also equally time for yourself. Don't be too hard on yourself and be there for your friends and family.
