Sociology Research and PhD Programmes

Sociology research at Brunel has a global perspective and examines core sociological issues through a distinctive cultural and media sociology lens and an applied focus. Through a set of strategic research clusters, staff work across disciplinary and institutional boundaries, generating public engagement and impact on social and cultural policy and practice in national and international contexts. The team’s research strength in social-cultural change, spanning digital cultures, media, inequality, race, gender and spatial politics, has been applied to a highly collaborative, interdisciplinary and methodologically-innovative sociological research agenda. Currently, researchers are applying core sociological concepts to contemporary societal shifts including plastic use, Brexit and ‘big tissue’.
