Whether you’ve exceeded expectations or haven’t received the grades you wanted it's important to keep calm and find out of what Clearing options are available to you.

We’ve listed some key points below to help you through the process.

#1 Identify if you’re eligible for Clearing

Check the UCAS website as early as possible on results day to see if you are eligible. If you are, an ‘Add Clearing choice’ button will become available on your Track Choices screen and you will be provided with a Clearing number. Make a note of this as you’ll need it when you’re ready to start calling universities.

#2 Consider your choices

This is your opportunity to take some time to decide what you really want to study. You could be spending up to four years studying for your degree so it’s important to find a course that’s right for you. Delve a bit deeper and check out the programme content, structure and assessment styles. Make sure you also check out what the university is like too. Is this somewhere you could see yourself living or commuting to for at least three years?

All available courses in Clearing will be listed and updated regularly on the UCAS website. You can also check the Telegraph website and the universities own sites.

#3 It’s time to start calling

Once you have found some courses you’re interested in, start making some calls. Most Clearing hotlines will be open from first thing in the morning until the evening, and also over the weekend. Remember to have your UCAS and Clearing numbers ready, as well as your qualifications.

#4 Advice is on-hand

If you need advice at any point during the Clearing process, you can call the university’s Admissions team. Alternatively, you can call the Exam Results Helpline. The advisers will be able to answer any questions you have, and give you support and guidance.
