Work Experience on a Major Studio Film - Arthur Tait

Arthur Tait

Arthur Tait, recently worked on a major studio film. While Arthur cannot disclose the name of the film, here he talked to fellow student, Elise Marra, about what he learned from the experience.

Arthur found out about this work experience from the Film Production Programme Leader, Niki Ashby. Arthur tells me that Niki is an immense help to students and regularly sends out work experience opportunities for students to apply tor. Due to Brunel’s good standing within the film industry, Brunel students are lucky enough to engage in these closed-door experiences.

Arthur applied for this placement because of his interest in major film productions. He thought it would provide an interesting insight into Hollywood, as well as a good opportunity to create connections.

As for the actual experience of being on a major film shoot, Arthur recalls that the specially constructed sets were astonishing. He notes how it was amazing to see a structure consisting of plywood and scaffolding on the outside, yet inside discover an entirely different world - a fully furnished house or hotel room, for example. When you stood inside, you had no sense that you were simply standing within a recently constructed wooden box.

Working on professional film sets is invaluable experience that Brunel students, like Arthur, are able to gain. When asked if any advice was bestowed upon him on set, Arthur replied, that the good advice he heard was rather commonplace - keep working to move up in the industry.

Arthur’s main takeaway was that Hollywood is not as glamourous as it appears to be, but the positive to that is that working in Hollywood is now far less intimidating for him, having experienced the reality of it.
