Who can take a Brunel English Language Test (BrunELT)?
You can apply to take a BrunELT test if you are:
- Holding a conditional offer for a place at Brunel University or LIBT but do not have the required IELTS or TOEFL score
- Holding an IELTS/TOEFL score, but have not yet reached the required English entry level for the academic course you have applied/applying for.
How often do tests take place?
Test takes place weekly from April - September and fortnightly from September - April. You can see upcoming dates on the booking form
Where does the test take place?
The test takes place on our Uxbridge campus, which is easily accessible by various modes of transport. Please see our campus directions
for help on how to get to Brunel.
What do I need to bring to the test?
You must bring some formal identification that includes a photograph of yourself, e.g. a passport or driving licence. We will not be able to give you your results unless we have seen some formal ID. You will also need to bring your own pens. Please note you will not be allowed to use a dictionary in the test.
How can I pay for the test?
The BrunELT costs £95 per person. Please download and complete this form before coming to the test. There are several payment options:
If you are paying by credit/debit card, please fax the form to 01895 269703 (never send credit card details via email).
If you would like to pay by debit/credit card in person, you can bring the form to the Finance Office in the Russell Building.
If you would like to pay in cash, you will need to take your completed form to the Cash Office in the Bannerman Centre. (Check summer opening times by calling 01895 265264)
If you plan to come in and pay in person please see the directions to campus
to find your way to the designated places for payment. Please note, your place on the test is not secured until we have received your payment of £95. You should make your payment by 12pm on the Wednesday prior to your test date
, at the latest. If we do not receive your payment by this time, you place on the test may be given to someone else.
We hope to introduce online payment for BrunELTs in the near future.
When will I get my results?
We aim to release the results one week after the test date. The results will be sent to the email address that you provided when you applied for the test. Please note we are unable to give the results out over the phone.
What should I do once I receive my test results?
The results of your test will be emailed to you. Depending on your application status, we will inform you of one of the following;
If you have already applied to Brunel or LIBT and your BrunELT results meet the required level for your course we will inform you of this and update your records to show you have met the English condition
If you have fallen slightly below the entry requirements, we will suggest which English language course you should attend to improve your academic English skills prior to your studies. In addition to your BrunELT, you will need to hold a valid UKBA secure English Language test for an English course.
If you haven't yet applied for a course at Brunel, we will send you details of available courses at Brunel (we will advise if it is likely that you need to attend an English course).
If you are applying to LIBT, or are a student from within the European Union, your results will be passed onto the relevant admissions department and they will contact you in due course.
Will I receive a certificate?
Yes, you can collect your certificate 5-10 working days after the test date. If you would like your certificate posted to you, please email firstname.lastname@example.org
If I don't pass, when can I retake the test?
The earliest that you can retake a BrunELT test is 2 months after your last test date.
Can my friend collect my results for me?
Friends or family members cannot collect your results. We will only email the results to the email account originally provided when booking the test on-line.
Can I receive my results before paying my test fee?
We are unable to send out results without seeing your proof of payment first. If you are unable to pay prior to the test, you will need to do so as soon as possible. Once we have received proof of payment, we will release your results.
Can I get a refund if I miss the test?
We are unable to offer refunds. However you may rearrange your test for another date, or transfer the money towards any other university fee (for example accommodation/tuition fees).If you would like to take the test on another date please inform the IPLC office by email at email@example.com.
