Brunel University London has been recognised as one of the best places in the world to research and study engineering and design by the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2024, released today.

The rankings, compiled by higher education analysts QS Quacquarelli Symonds, provide independent comparative analysis on the performance of more than 16,400 individual university programmes, taken by students at more than 1,500 universities in 96 countries and territories.

Brunel receives a published rank for 13 disciplines, most notably:

  • Petroleum Engineering, for which Brunel's world ranking is in the 51–100 bracket
  • Art and Design, in the 101–150 bracket
  • Mechanical, Aeronautical and Manufacturing Engineering, in the 151-200 bracket
  • Civil and Structural Engineering, in the 201-240 bracket, newly appearing in the rankings this year
  • Electrical and Electronic Engineering, in the 251-300 bracket.

QS uses five key metrics to compile the subject rankings. Reputation indicators are based on the responses of more than 240,000 employers and academics to QS surveys. Two indicators measure the impact and productivity of each university's research, and another is used to assess cross-border research collaboration.
