At Brunel University London the Division of Social Work are dedicated to providing broad ranging and high quality practice placement opportunities. We have a dedicated and experienced placements team who are here to support you throughout the process. One of the unique things we do is engage with you around placements promptly, even before you have started the course, to ensure that you are prepared early and ready to go when the time for placement arrives.
Quality Assurance of Practice Learning feedback from our Practice Educators and Practice Supervisors for 2015-2016 included:
Overall placement experience: 100% of students scored this as excellent–good
“This placement has offered an exceptional range of learning."
“I have found both the student and the representatives from the university a pleasure to work with.”
In the 2016 - 2017 academic year, the NHS offered a £20 daily placement fee, which for a 100 day placement totals £2,000 and £1,400 for 70 day placements.
We also aim to offer our MA1 students ‘shadowing’ opportunities, where you can observe a HCPCC registered Social Worker over a period of three days and get an idea of the tasks and responsibilities of a social worker.

In addition, we are committed to developing practice education and placements by offering Practice Supervisors and Practice Educators’ modules at PEPS 1 and 2, which are in line with the Practice Educators’ Professional Standards.
We require all new Practice Educators and strongly encourage new Practice Supervisors to undertake the Practice Educators’ modules (PEPs) for free (assuming you take on a Brunel Social Work student). Non-qualified social workers can take on the role of a Practice Supervisor if they hold a relevant professional qualification and have substantial experience.
For further information on these modules visit our practice education programme webpage.
