BDS showcase at the UK Shanghai Creative Industries Event

Students present bds

Prof Hua Dong, Head of Brunel Design School (BDS) and Dr Vanja Garaj, Director of Research for BDS, will join the panel discussion on ‘What’s next for UK-China Collaboration in Design’ on the 24th March 2022.

The discussion is a part of talks taking place at the UK-Shanghai Creative Industries Virtual Event, organised by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) and Innovate UK, together with the Shanghai Theatre Academy.
In the recent five years, BDS has won four research grants from AHRC in the field of creative industries, collaborating with partners in China. These projects range from ‘Fostering Creative Citizenship in China through Co-Design and Public Makerspaces’ (2018-2021) to ‘StoryFutures China: UK-China Transnational Strategic Partnership for Immersive Storytelling in Museums and Cultural Institutions’ (2020-2023) and ‘Designing the Future of UK-China Research and Innovation Collaboration in the Museums and Galleries Sector’ (2022-2023).

The Chinese partner organisations on the grants include College of Design and Innovation at Tongji University, USC-SJTU Institute of Cultural and Creative Industry (ICCI) at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai Science and Technology Museum, Shanghai Natural History Museum and Modern Art Museum, Shanghai.
The creative industries are of growing importance to the prosperity of the UK and China. BDS’ existing and expanding international partnerships have placed us in a unique position for researching creative industries. As well as our staff expertise in digital media, product design engineering and industrial design and our long-standing industrial engagement and involvement in innovation programmes such as Co-innovate and Design Plus.
At the UK-Shanghai Creative Industries Event, ‘StoryFutures China’ and ‘Designing the Future of UK-China Research and Innovation Collaboration’ projects will be shared.
