Tell us about your educational and/or career journey since you graduated from Brunel?
Since graduating, I have been with the College of Engineering, Design and Physical Sciences at Brunel, where I am currently working on the TDX-ASSIST project that is funded by EU Horizon 2020, which aims to provide novel mechanisms for the coordination of transmission and distribution data exchanges for renewable integration in the European marketplace and networks.
What does a typical day at work involve for you?
Over the past three years, I have an exceptional proven record of delivering on customers’ requirements and I was extremely technically competent through working with several European TSOs, DSOs and energy utilities as a researcher on a major EU research project (TDX -ASSIS project which is sponsored under EU Horizon 2020). My main research and deliverables focused mainly on connecting stakeholders safely, reliably and efficiently to the energy they need. My tasks in the project included designing and developing innovative tools and techniques that enable information and data exchange among different stakeholders within the energy sector.
What’s been the highlight of your career journey so far?
I have been a member of the Brunel Institute of Power Systems (BIPS), the Institute of Energy Futures, U.K, IET and IEEE, where I have been active in the themes of Smart Power Networks and the coordination between the distribution and transmission network, which is reflected via my activities within the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme.
How would you say your Brunel experience has helped you to get where you are today?
I received an MSc degree with distinction in Sustainable Electrical Power and a PhD degree in Electrical Power Engineering from Brunel. This solid experience has provided me with the required knowledge to support my career within the market of Renewable Energy, Electrical Engineering and Power Systems.
Why did you choose to study at Brunel and why would you recommend Brunel to others?
Studying in Brunel gave me the opportunity to be within the area of my professional interest that lies specifically in the field of Electrical Engineering and Control. This experience has given me the ability to further develop my abilities and skills and contribute in the area which I have studied and pursued my career in.
What is your best memory of studying here?
The great campus of Brunel and my time with friends and colleagues are my best memories, where I have made a lot of real friendships that will stay alive for ever.
If you could give one piece of advice to current Brunel students, what would that be?
I have seen Brunel grow in quality and quantity to the present day. My advice is to be part of its development and contribute to its growth even further to make it one of the best universities in the world. This is what Isambard Kingdom Brunel deserves, as he was one of the greatest Engineers in the world.
What would be your top tip or key advice for new graduates as they begin their career journey after leaving Brunel?
The sky should be the limit of your innovation, and infinity is the time to give up!
