English PhD courses

From modernist and post-war women's writing to Caribbean and migrant fiction, at Brunel our research interests span a wide range of areas aimed at how understanding how literature has, can and does affect wider society.

If you want to take your interest in English to the highest level we offer PhD programmes that allow you to work alongside internationally-renowned academics with expert support.

Our research is centred within the Brunel Centre for Contemporary Writing (BCCW) who facilitate and promote the outstanding research work that takes place within English and related subjects. The BCCW have a strong focus on maximizing both their socio-cultural and academic impact of their work, so whilst they are actively engaged in conducting and supporting cutting edge research projects, they are also heavily involved in the work that goes into events like the annual Hillingdon Literary festival or publications like the BCCW branded book series, ‘British Fiction: The Decades Series’.
