Biography

Lieutenant Stephen Lacy Reiss was the son of Charles Arthur and Florence Lacy Reiss. He had attended Marlborough School and, in 1907, he was admitted to Balliol College Oxford. He had been in the Officer Training Corps at both Marlborough School and Oxford. He applied for a commission on 15 August 1914 and was granted immediately on the recommendation from Oxford University. At the time of enlistment, he was a teacher at Borough Road College. Reiss served with 5th Battalion Royal Berkshire Regiment. He was killed on 13 October 1915 aged 26. He is listed on Oxford University's memorial.
