Dear member,

We’re excited at the prospect of re-opening next month and wanted to get in contact to let you know how it will all work. We are currently ramping up operations again in anticipation of re-opening mid-April. Assuming we get the confirmation from the government, we expect to open from 7am on April 12th with normal opening hours. Keep an eye on your Brunel Sport app for the latest updates. We expect to make advance booking for gym slots live from April 7th. This too is subject to the government’s confirmation on re-opening dates.

What does this mean for my payments?

Direct Debit members

  • Existing members – compensating for your November payment, you will now pay nothing in April, you will receive 50% off in May, normal charges from June.

Payroll members

  • Existing members – you will receive 50% off in April, normal charges from May.

Annual members

  • Existing Annuals are all extended to compensate for closure. Check your expiry date with reception on your next visit. Students who are not returning to campus at all should email gym@brunel.ac.uk

 Not returning to campus just yet?

  • Direct Debit members should email DFC now to request a freeze info@debitfinance.co.uk. All Direct Debit queries should be directed to DFC.
  • Payroll members should email gym@brunel.ac.uk to request a freeze by 7th April.
  • Annual members should email gym@brunel.ac.uk to request a freeze

 Will Covid measures still be in place? 

  • Yes, you will still need to book a gym slot (one per day)
  • Machines will be spaced out as last year and our stringent hourly cleaning regime remains in place
  • We will still need you to do your part by cleaning your equipment after each use and following the one-way system in the building
  • Changing rooms remains closed with toilets open, but we hope to open them in some capacity from mid-May

 What about classes? 

  • Check out the Brunel Sport app for online live classes, more to be added soon. We hope to bring back face to face classes from mid-May

Dear Member,

We hope you had a restful festive break.

 Following the latest government announcement, we can confirm that Brunel Gym remains closed until further notice.

 A reduced online class timetable – featuring yoga, Pilates and Mindfulness classes – runs from Monday and is free to students and staff via our Brunel Sport app.

 Information on payments:

Direct debit Members: we will not charge you until we re-open. On re-opening we will also compensate for the payment you made in November. If you have any concerns about your Direct Debit, your freeze or wish to cancel, please email DFC directly at info@debitfinance.co.uk. Please do not reply to this email.

 Staff Payroll Members: We will not deduct from your payslips until we re-open.

Annual Members: The months you lose to closure will be added to your subscription when we re-open.

Brunel’s other sports facilities are also currently closed until further notice. 

We will update you once the situation changes. In the meantime, feel free to use the online classes to keep up your fitness and look after your mental health in these unprecedented times. We will also provide updates on our social media: @brunel_sport.

Latest Update 30th November: November Lockdown ends Wednesday 2nd Decemeber - Click here

We are delighted that we're back open following Lockdown 2.0 and pleased to announce that the Brunel Gym in the Sports Centre has increased in capacity to 35 spaces.  Please ensure you read this FAQs page and watch our introduction video before attending. We have also:

  • resumed normal, pre-covid opening hours - adding 3 new booking slots to every week
  • We have implemented a 3-strike policy for those that do not show up to their gym slot, to encourage members to free up slots where they cannot attend
  • Some members have been booking 2 sessions in a day; now that gym capacity is under pressure we will automatically cancel the 2nd booking

We hope that with these changes, along with extra safety additions will ensure your return to the gym is as safe as possible following government guidlines. 

QR code check in

In addition to the current safety measures we have in place, as of 24th September, it is now a legal requirement for us to display the NHS Test and Trace QR code in our facilities as part of Test and Trace. On arrival for each visit, you will need to scan the QR code with the NHS COVID-19 app to help us comply with government regulations. You will also need to swipe in with your membership card or sticker as usual at reception.

How to download the app     

If you have a smartphone, please download the NHS COVID-19 app, available for both Apple and Android devices, so that you have the app ready on your phone before you get here. If you have issues downloading it, check the NHS website for help.
If you don’t have a smartphone, please ensure we have the most up-to-date contact details for you when you check in at reception on your next visit, we will need an email address and phone number for you.

What happens to my Direct Debit Membership?

  • Direct Debit payments

     If, however, you wish to freeze long-term or cancel your membership please email DFC at info@debitfinance.co.uk. Please note, if you cancel your membership and re-join at a later date, joining fees apply, so you may wish to freeze instead. 
  • If you are having an issue with your Direct Debits please contact DFC directly at info@debitfinance.co.uk

I have purchased an Annual membership, what will happen?

  • Annual members Existing Annuals are all extended to compensate for closure. Check your expiry date with reception on your next visit. Students who are not returning to campus at all should email gym@brunel.ac.uk 

Can I just turn up and use the gym?

  •  Gym users are required to book a slot in advance via our Brunel Sport app – available on all mobile devices (please only book one slot per day)
  • Off peak members will still only be able to book off-peak hours (7am-3pm). Premium and Peak members can choose any bookable time.
  • Pay As You Train is subject to capacity and you must come to reception to book and pay for an allocated gym slot (card payments only).

What safety measures are in place when I arrive?

To ensure everyone’s safety, we ask that you do not attend if you have covid symptoms or feel ill at all

  • Please arrive on time but not too early as we will ask you to queue outside the building until the designated time
  • You will be asked to show your booking confirmation on your phone at reception
  • You will find our equipment is spaced out to enable social distancing, and we have implemented extra cleaning procedures with your safety in mind.

  • Sanitation points are available throughout the gym for your reassurance
  • For safety of everyone, we do ask that you wipe down your own equipment and replace weights back on racks yourself after each use
  • We thank you for respecting the booking times and vacating the gym areas on time
  • For everyone’s safety, you’ll have to train alone for now – no training with gym buddies (even if you live with them) or spotting
  • Please arrive ready to train as changing rooms and lockers will be closed
  • Please bring minimum belongings with you, which includes no personal towels in the gym. 
  • Toilets will be available.

•How can I join the gym as a new member?

•What about my current Direct Debit/Annual/SPP Gold Membership?

  • Direct Debits -  If you’re not quite sure about returning yet and wish to freeze your Direct Debit for free, or cancel, please email: info@debitfinance.co.uk (please note if you cancel and wish to re-join on a later date you may be charged a joining fee, so you may prefer to freeze instead)
  • We are extending the End Date on Annual Memberships please contact Gym@brunel.ac.uk
  • All gym membership options will be available as either Direct Debits or as an annual payments in advance.

•What notice do I need to give if I want to leave?

Direct Debits are subject to a one month minimum contract. Any members wishing to cancel must provide one month's notice via email to DFC at info@debitfinance.co.uk. Unfortunately, we are unable to refund annual memberships except in the circumstances outlined in the memberships terms and conditions

•Can I put my membership on hold over the summer as a student?

Yes student Direct Debit members are able to freeze their membership between 1st June and 31st August providing the student notifies the gym team in advance of 1st May.

•Are classes included in my membership?

Yes, when we are fully reopened, all fitness classes are included in your membership type (i.e. off peak members can only attend classes during off peak hours). ‘Premium’ members will also have Union Sport membership included which will give you access to all active@brunel sessions too.

•Can I qualify for Members of the Defence Community?

Any serving personnel should use their MOD 90 (Service ID card) for evidence of eligibility; service families to show their Defence Discount Service (DDS) card and Veterans to have a specific ID card.

•How do I book onto a class?

When classes start back up members are able to book classes via the Brunel Sport app up to 7 days in advance.

•How much do fitness classes cost for non-members?

30 minute classes are £5, 45 minute classes are £6 and specialist classes such as Yoga and Pilates are £7.

•How do I cancel a class booking?

You can do this via the Brunel Sport app where you made your original booking.

•Can I bring a friend?

Pay As you Train (non-members) can pay £6 per visit.

•What is the minimum age to join?

You must be 16 to join the Brunel Sport Gym however membership for anyone under the age of 18 needs to be agreed with the Gym Management who you can contact on 01895 265305 or gym@brunel.ac.uk

•Do you offer Corporate memberships?

Yes. Please enquire directly with our gym team on 01895 265305 or gym@brunel.ac.uk

•Do I have to have an induction?

We will publish an online induction video soon

•How can I give feedback to the gym?

We welcome all feedback and you can do so by either speaking to a member of staff or email gym@brunel.ac.uk.

•What should I wear?

  • Please arrive wearing clean gym clothes and with a water bottle, as our changing rooms & lockers are closed for now (toilets are available)

•Do you have showers / changing facilities?

Our changing rooms,  showers are closed.  Toilets are open but lockers are not available in the Sports Centre..

•Is there parking available?

Yes. Parking is free of charge to public members although parking restrictions are in force from 8am to 4:30pm Monday – Friday so you must register for a parking permit at reception during these hours. NB During the working day, it can sometimes be harder to find a space in the Sports Centre car park but this becomes much easier after 4:30pm.
