The use of a principle-based approach to rule making in consumer law

Consumer law is based on prescriptive standards that have pushed firms to ignore consumer needs to the benefit of a compliance box ticking exercise. The project seeks to unpick how best to change the way consumer rules are adopted and defined to create a more open-textured standard that will place consumer welfare at its heart.
