Challenging Colonial Legacies and Reframing African Poverty in British NGO Fundraising Appeals

This final-year project researched ways in how social media NGO advocacy campaigns could better represent beneficiaries of aid with agency and dignity.

In this project, final year student, Sophie, created an alternative social media campaign guided by existing literature and advice received from interviews with field experts. The campaign, by the fictional grassroots NGO ‘Action Fund Zambia’, was in aid of the climate-induced food crisis in Zambia, and included three Instagram stories and one Instagram post.
