The Brunel Entrepreneur Hub is unable to provide legal advice on complex intellectual property (IP) matters. Any information or guidance offered by University staff is provided for general educational and informational purposes only and should not be considered a substitute for independent legal advice.
Where an enquiry or business idea feedback session relates to work created as part of a group project within an academic module, the Brunel Entrepreneur Hub will not be able to provide advice or support unless the student can demonstrate that all group members have been consulted and have consented to the idea being taken forward.
Students may be required to provide evidence of this consent, such as a completed Group Project Consent Agreement.
Students should seek independent legal advice before sharing, exhibiting, disclosing, publishing, commercialising, or otherwise developing any work that may have potential commercial value. This is particularly important where the work has been created in connection with:
- a placement or internship;
- an competition, challenge, or award scheme;
- an industry-sponsored or collaborative project;
- research involving external partners; or
- any arrangement that may give rise to third-party intellectual property rights or confidentiality obligations.
The University accepts no responsibility for decisions taken by students in relation to the protection, disclosure, exploitation, or commercialisation of intellectual property. Students remain responsible for ensuring that they comply with any contractual, confidentiality, intellectual property, or regulatory obligations that may apply to their work.
