Leaving Neverland: pedophilia, publics and fandoms

This project investigates the receptions and aftermath of the documentary 'Leaving Neverland' in relation to Michael Jackson's legacy of music, performance, and his fan base. It asks why, in the midst of the #MeToo movement, so many fans continue to love and defend Jackson. It will consider the roles of race, gender and sexuality in relation to this, and will examine notions of childhood and innocence.
