If you’ve completed at least two years of an undergraduate UK medical degree and wish to further develop your skills and knowledge to improve your career prospects, then this year-long programme is designed for you.
By studying Biological Sciences BSc (for intercalated students) at Brunel you’ll gain advanced knowledge and understanding of life science and the impact this has on biomedical science. You’ll enhance your university experience and prepare for your future career by learning a more specialist pathway. Our programme provides you with the opportunity for personal self-development and an in-depth study of biological sciences.
On successful completion of this course, you’ll gain an additional, research degree at the point of graduation (Biological Sciences BSc).

Our Biological Sciences (for intercalated students) BSc is focused on helping you achieve your career ambitions and provides you with the opportunity to study a topic that isn't covered within your current degree, or to deepen your knowledge within a specialist field to improve your career prospects. You'll attain a comprehensive learning of both practical lab and research skills, which will form the ideal foundation for you to begin a research career within the medical industry. On successful completion of this course, you’ll also gain an additional, research-based degree, at the point of graduation (Biological Sciences BSc).

Fees quoted are per year and may be subject to an annual increase. Home undergraduate student fees are regulated and are currently capped at £9,250 per year; any changes will be subject to changes in government policy. International fees will increase annually, by no more than 5% or RPI (Retail Price Index), whichever is the greater.
Fees for EU applicants – For entry in 2023/24 academic year, eligible EU applicants will have the same tuition fees as UK students to continue our support during this transition period. These fees will be applied for the duration of the course.

The programme will be delivered in several ways. Lectures and seminars will be supported by group discussion, problem solving sessions, laboratory practical sessions, formative presentations and attendance at the divisional research seminar series.
Knowledge and skills will be assessed via a range of assessment methods. You'll write for scientific and non-scientific audiences, present posters, give oral presentations, analyse experimental datasets and write reviews that cover overarching disciplines with completion of the research project and dissertation.
You'll also receive constructive feedback in all assessments and tailored advice on your progress throughout the course.
