Geography skills development

Our Geography degrees provide you with many skills that are very marketable to employers.

These include different kinds of research skills such as critical thinking research design, collecting qualitative and quantitative data from people and the environment, data analysis, Geographical Information Systems and laboratory work. You will also develop a wide range of communication skills including written, oral and graphical communication, including report writing, giving presentations and creating effective posters, blogs and podcasts. You'll become accomplished in synthesising information from different sources and using it to develop a convincing argument. Also, you'll enhance your interpersonal skills, including participating in and leading group activities, learning to reflect and build on your own strengths and weaknesses as well as skills in independent and self-directed learning.

Studying geography at Brunel is not limited to the classroom

Fieldtrips

When studying Geography, it is important to learn about the world through direct experience and observation. You will participate in residential field trips in the first and second year in both UK and European destinations, which are free of charge to students. Beyond these residential trips, our London location gives us fantastic opportunities to explore important geographical processes locally. Many of our modules also include local day trips.

Leadership for Change

Through this third year module, you'll work as part of a team on a project with a local organisation. This will allow you to put your learning into practice and also develop important skills for the world of work.

Opportunities to study abroad

Through the study abroad scheme, you will have opportunity to study at one of a number of European and American universities.

Learn a new language

At Brunel we offer you the opportunity to learn a new language, allowing you to expand your communication skills, to gain insight into other cultures, and to prepare you for study abroad if you opt for it. You can choose from nine different languages; Modern Standard Arabic, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Mandarin, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian and Spanish.
