The Scout Association is the largest Scouting organisation in the United Kingdom and is the World Organisation of the Scout Movement's recognised member for the United Kingdom.
The association aims to provide "fun, adventure and skills for life and give young people the opportunity to enjoy new adventures, experience outdoors and take part in a range of creative, community and international activities, interact with others, make new friends, gain confidence and have the opportunity to reach their full potential.
Details of the Volunteering Opportunity:
Section Assistants are adult volunteers who assist the Section Leaders and Assistant Section Leaders in delivering the programme to young people in Scouting. The role is once a week during term times, plus any planning time at home or any extra weekend events they would like to participate in.
You can volunteer with any of these age groups, which meet during term times, with the occasional camp or event during holidays:
- Early Years (4-6 year olds meet Monday evenings)
- Beaver Scouts (6-8-year olds, meet Monday evenings)
- Cub Scouts (8-10-year olds, meet Wednesday evenings)
- Scouts (10-14-year olds, meet Friday evenings)
Key tasks:
- Running games and activities as part of weekly section meetings and other section events
- Assisting young people to achieve badges and awards
- Assisting with residential experiences for the section
- Assisting the section with taking part in a varied, exciting and safe programme of activities
Appointment requirements:
- Must complete the appointment process (including acceptance of The Scout Association's policies)
- Complete Getting Started training requirements within 5 months of the full appointment
