Summary
Dr Cathy Gower is the Head of the Department of Education in the College of Business Arts and Social Sciences (CBASS). She joined Brunel University in 1997 as the coordinator for the PGCE Secondary Physical Education with QTS programme and also worked extensively on both the BSc Secondary Physical Education with QTS programme and the BA Secondary Physical Education programme. Her work on these postgraduate and undergraduate teacher education programmes was informed by her career up to that point as a teacher of Physical Education in two local London boroughs. In 2009, Cathy became the Deputy Head of the School of Sport and Education with specific responsibility for the development of teaching and learning and associated quality assurance matters. In 2014, Cathy became the Director of Initial Teacher Education (ITE) in the Department of Education and led the Primary and Secondary teams to an 'outstanding' judgement for both phases of provision by Ofsted. Cathy is particularly proud to be the Head of the Department of Education at Brunel University London having previously been an undergraduate, masters and doctoral student at the University herself. Cathy is passionate about how the work of the Department of Education can contribute significantly to the advancement of research and practice in relation to both the education of young people and the education of practitioners in a range of different educational settings.
