Integrated Genomics

Integrated genomics acknowledges that different functional genomics methodologies are able to address qualitatively different areas of information necessary to inform synthetic systems design. The determinants of particular functions or functional efficiency may only be present in some strains. The evolutionary trajectories necessary for different adaptations may be dependent upon different genetic contexts that differ between strains (epistasis). The genes that can respond through regulation to provide useful adaptations might not be viable with mutations, or may only be useful as part of larger coordinated changes. And, the mutations that are needed for development of strains for adaptations to conditions that they do not encounter naturally may not exist within naturally occurring diversity.

So, we take an integrated approach to using genomics to inform design, which is summarized in the diagram below.
