DBS Update Service

The DBS update service lets applicants keep their DBS certificates up to date online and allows employers to check a certificate online. If you currently hold an Enhanced DBS certificate and are registered with the DBS Update Service, you may not need to complete a new DBS application for Brunel.

If you have subscribed to the Update Service and are paying the subscription fee instead of providing ID you will be asked to provide a copy of your DBS certificate and sign a consent form so that we can check the status of your DBS online. You will not have to pay for a new DBS or complete a new DBS application.

Please note if you have applied for Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Physician Associate or Social Work programmes your existing DBS should have been checked against the both the childrens and adults barred lists, in order for us to use this option. PGCE applicants are required to be checked against childrens barred list only.

This option is not intended for all students who currently hold a DBS certificate, only those who are registered with the DBS Update Service. For more information about the update service please visit the DBS update service website.

DBS instructions will be sent to you in May (once you hold an offer of a place).

How to subscribe

To subscribe you will need your DBS application reference number. This number is generated when you submit an online application. If you subscribe after completing an application through Brunel you can get your application reference number by contacting the DBS Team on DBS@brunel.ac.uk.

If you have any questions regarding this process please email the DBS Team.
